Replication of Historic Wallcovering

Our experience with the replication of historic wall coverings original to the historic home has had a long history with our studio. Our first project came about when the studio consulted with a historic home on the possibility of reproducing the wall coverings that were original to the home when the home was first built.

Walter’s interest in a sense of antiquity with all of his work as well as our exceptional technical expertise combined to result in the studios interest in replicating these original papers.

The process to recreate the papers starts with historic investigation utilizing any written materials available and any existing samples of the original papers – often scraps of the papers, and old photos that may show papers in the background, usually black and white, for us to work from. We then arrive at possible patterns and historic colors and start to redraw each color and layer that will become the replication of the paper which can be seen in our installation photographs of several of the historic home projects that we have done.

These historic wall covering replication projects are special to us as they speak to our sense of posterity, and also enable the studio to utilize the exceptional expertise of being able to create these as few studios are able to do. Seeing the end result of bringing back to life the original atmosphere of these historic homes is very fulfilling to us and the home’s guardians.

As you can see, with our experienced process for creating your historic wallcovering in place, we are able to create a period pattern, or your original wallcovering as it originally was with dramatic results.
