Riley Children’s Hospital was looking to add a positive uplifting visual component that would be placed throughout several long hallways to provide a pleasant distraction to weight of the hospital atmosphere. Previously there were framed smaller photographs of animals that were neither prevalent enough or large enough to have the desired impact.
Our solution was to create four colorful slightly whimsical murals that would be on a grand scale and provide a positive interruption to the heavy thoughts of the patients walking the hallways and speak to the positive comforting attitude of Riley Children’s Hospital.
In addition, utilizing the same imagery we created 58 banners that would great you as you enter the building through the outpatient center setting the stage to discover the murals as you navigate the hallways.
The murals and banners are based on the Plains, the Sea, the Forest and the Mountains. They range in size from 8”x15’ to 8’x40’ long. The material that the colorful images were printed on are a state of the art durable material that comes in 8’ sheets applied to the wall as a laminate. The durability is much like a plastic sheeting. The banners were printed on a lightfast material which will not fade.
The artwork that we created for Riley brought a great visual resolution to what was once plain and boring hallways and entry, resulting in this visual narrative that spoke to the hospitals positive atmosphere and approach to healing.
