One America Corporation was in need of a way to update the lobby of their corporate headquarters high-rise building located in downtown Indianapolis. The large lobby with its open towering glass profile presented two issues. The first was a practical issue of addressing the acoustics in such a way to help minimize sound which could echo throughout the lobby.
The second issue, an aesthetic one, was to bring something to the open souring space that would bring a great visual as well as speaking to the One America brand.
The obvious visual was the American flag which of course, relates to the corporation name of One America. But with that visual in mind, there were issues about using the flag as is, and how to incorporate the image into the space in the air. My inspiration came from a limited-edition silk screen print that I had done a few years earlier. The print is a multi-layered flag fashioned with layered patterns and verbiage. The project required something different, but a solution that would celebrate the flag without denigrating it. My resolve was to use stripes of red and white that had the layered effect of my screenprint, but added the elements of celebration using freedom stars, pops of color, streamers and floating pattern, on fourteen different pieces!
Next the presentation was considered. My answer was to put the flag banners on a curved frame which would float horizontal at various levels high above the lobby which also contained a sound absorbing material inserted inside the banner frame.
We took great pride in the final design and product that resulted from the issues to address. I feel that the S curved floating banners speak volumes without saying a word.
