Walter’s Collaboration with Renowned Rock and Roll Photographer Reimaging iconic Musicians Through Contemporary Fine Art

Inspired by a portrait photograph taken by Gered Mankowitz while photographing Billy Idol’s band Generation X for their debut studio album sleeve, Billy ’78 captures the raw energy and rebellious spirit of the late-1970s punk movement. Gered loved this shot so much that it was used as the flagship image for his first London exhibition in 1981.

The artwork reflects Idol’s unmistakable rock-and-roll persona through a bold painterly approach and vivid fluorescent colors used to create his expressive T-shirt. His signature spiked hair and edgy styling embody both his eccentric character and the attitude that defined the punk era.

The 27” x 18” artwork is an edition of 200, signed by both Walter Knabe and Gered Mankowitz. Created using Walter's signature hand-crafted screen printing and hand painted detail on heavy, tactile paper.

A certificate of authenticity will be provided along with the purchase of the screenprint.
